Invercargill Airport car hire

Choose an Invercargill Airport rental around the handover you can complete, especially for an early arrival, a late weekday flight or a weekend pickup. Published office hours differ between companies, and one supplier's return instructions can send you to a different parking area from another's.

IVC airport collection and an Invercargill city pickup are different arrangements. If your trip starts with time in the city, compare a transfer followed by a later rental with collecting at the airport immediately. If you are continuing into Southland on arrival, the airport handover may save a separate branch visit.

Start with the named branch

The airport's rental directory lists several companies serving IVC. Use the supplier and collection instructions on your reservation, rather than treating that directory as confirmation of a specific offer's location or stock.

Ezi identifies its branch in the airport terminal. GO Rentals' branch FAQ places its counter beside the baggage-claim area. Save the company's contact details and the agreed pickup procedure before travelling, particularly if you expect an unattended collection.

For a city-office or local-provider offer, establish whether airport collection is included and how it works. An Invercargill address does not mean you can simply walk to a terminal counter, and an airport-directory listing does not prove that a transfer is part of your reservation.

Office hours and collection hours are different

The following examples were checked on 10 September 2026. They are branch-specific schedules, so confirm the relevant date, holiday and handover arrangement.

Ezi's weekday schedule contains an evening gap. An arrival during that gap should be checked against the agreed collection time, not treated as falling within a continuous 07:30-20:30 opening period.

GO's after-hours instructions require online or app check-in at least 24 hours before arrival for the prearranged pickup service. The company then supplies collection instructions. If that is the arrangement you need, complete the process before travel and make sure those instructions have reached you. An entered flight number alone does not complete that preparation.

Do not substitute the terminal's opening window for either company's hours. Building access, staffed service and an approved unattended handover are separate things.

Return to your supplier's parking area

Two terminal-based bookings can still have different vehicle-return routes:

• Ezi's return directions follow Airport Drive past the terminal drop-off zone, then enter the rental car park on the left. Use an allocated Ezi space. Its key box is on the wall to the left when facing the counter.
• GO's branch directions specify the main airport car park and GO-signposted spaces near the exit gates, rather than following the general rental-return signs. Its after-hours instructions place the key box inside the terminal at the GO counter.

Save the directions that match your booking. Do not use one company's parking route because it appears in another airport guide or is the first sign you notice. Ask about access to the terminal key box for your intended return time and have any out-of-hours return agreed in advance.

Before leaving the car, allow time to unload, check for belongings and complete the agreed return steps. Keep a record of where you parked and the vehicle's condition, then return the keys through the specified process. Your airline's check-in time is a separate deadline after the vehicle handover.

Hire immediately or start in Invercargill?

The airport transport page identifies a taxi rank near the terminal and baggage-claim area. It gives a short estimated journey to the city, but actual traffic, waiting and your accommodation address still affect the transfer. Check a current fare and pickup arrangement rather than assuming that every transport option operates for your arrival.

A city-first plan may suit an itinerary with meetings, a family visit or time close to your accommodation before a driving trip begins. Immediate airport hire may be simpler when several destinations are planned from the start or you want to leave directly for your next overnight stop.

Compare the whole journey, including the trip to any later rental branch. Price the same vehicle capacity, hire period and accepted return point in each option. Add accommodation parking and airport transfers where relevant; a daily rental figure alone will not settle which plan costs less.

If returning the car before your final night, plan transport from the rental handover to your accommodation and back to the airport. Make sure the apparent saving does not depend on a transfer you have not established.

Fit Southland travel around the rental days

For a trip combining Invercargill with the Catlins, Bluff or Fiordland, decide which days involve independent driving and where you will sleep before the return flight. Leave space in the itinerary for stops and changing conditions, rather than treating a navigation estimate as a guaranteed arrival time.

An itinerary continuing to Stewart Island deserves a separate transport comparison. The airport describes regional services that call only when a passenger has prebooked. Confirm the exact connection with the operator. Do not assume a rental needs to remain parked for the entire island stay, or that a passenger transfer carries your rental vehicle.

For a one-way trip ending elsewhere, GO's branch FAQ says arrangements depend on factors including season, travel direction and minimum hire periods. Use an accepted quote for the exact destination. A national branch network does not make every one-way combination available on every date.

Airport information and passenger context

Use the official parking and access information alongside your supplier's return directions. A current public terminal wayfinding map was not verified for this guide, so it does not provide an invented counter diagram. The official transport directory is the useful starting point for rental contacts and alternatives.

The airport's 2025 annual report records 338,259 passenger movements from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025. Its operations page explicitly explains that the total combines arrivals and departures. This is airport activity, not unique visitors, rental bookings or a prediction of queues when you arrive.
