Finding the terminal desks

The official airport car-hire page places its hire-car services beside the East St Cafe inside the terminal. It lists Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot and SIXT and links a terminal map. Check the supplier on your reservation rather than assuming every listed brand has an offer for your dates.

After collecting your bags, follow the instructions for that operator. Allow time for paperwork and the walk to the car when choosing pickup. Ask in advance about equipment, substantial luggage or an access requirement that affects how you reach the vehicle.

The same airport page links a return-parking map and says rental return spaces are beside the terminal. That establishes the general location, not your assigned bay or key-return arrangement.

Early return and late collection

Ask for the return entrance, parking area and key procedure when collecting the vehicle. For a flight before staffed opening hours, confirm whether an unattended handover is available and how it is recorded. Do not use long-stay or passenger pickup parking unless the rental supplier specifically instructs you to do so.

A late arrival requires a separate agreement. Check the latest collection time, how to report a delayed flight and whether an adjusted handover attracts a charge. Include the flight number where requested and keep the supplier's contact accessible during travel.

Plan backwards from your airline's check-in requirements on the final day. Add time for a fuel stop if required, unloading, recording the car's condition and walking into the terminal. An airport's proximity to town is not a reason to remove the return margin.

City or Capricorn Coast itinerary?

The airport's FAQ places the city centre within about ten minutes' drive and describes Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast as approximately 40 kilometres north-east of Rockhampton, with an approximate 40-minute journey. These are general estimates, not guaranteed travel times from your hotel or at your departure hour.

Use your actual overnight address and planned stops to decide whether airport hire is useful for the whole visit. If the trip combines a city stay with coastal days, compare the cost of retaining the car with transfers and a shorter hire. Include parking and any additional collection journey.

For a longer regional route, inspect the distance conditions and the permitted return branch. If returning somewhere else, compare a quote that names that branch and includes the one-way charge. Do not assume a supplier's presence in two towns creates a permitted one-way booking.

Compare the final conditions

Keep collection times, driver details and rental duration identical between offers. Check the total payable, deposit, fuel and distance terms, damage conditions, cancellation rules and required documents. Add the equipment and additional drivers you need before choosing.
